Walking my dogs was an embarrassing nightmare. They would run every which way, barking and charging anything that caught their eye – even stationary boxes and rocks. Visitors had to endure a few minutes of incessant barking and jumping until they settled down. Nixon would demand attention by whining and clawing at my legs. They both had separation anxiety, following my every move and whining if I shut the door just to go to the washroom.

I felt absolutely awful because people would give me the worst looks, like I was a horrible human being because my dogs were barking at them. Despite their behaviours, to me they were my adorable and loving pets. When I'm home with them, they would be calm and cuddly. I wanted them to be under control so that other people could see that side of them as well.

When Janna came to my house, we had an in-depth discussion about the dogs' behavior and all of my concerns. She told me a lot of their behaviour could be an attempt to act as pack leader, since they did not identify me as such. So, we got to work by setting a boundary. It took about a dozen tries, and once they understood that I was taking charge, everything changed.

It hasn't even been a week, and I feel like someone replaced my pups with obedient little angels. They don't bark at the window or door. I can walk them beside me and entire groups of people can pass without incident. They wait for me to signal them to walk through doors, navigate staircases and jump onto furniture. I still have to correct them and keep up the training, but we are already miles away from where we started.

It's a miracle. I can't say enough about how impressed I am with the results.

As for Blizzard, WOW!!!! We are still waiting with worry for the good dog behavior to wear off. Janna I am amazed what difference the 3 hours with you made. He waits to be invited in and out. He sat in his spot while we had dinner. We didn't have to get up once. We maybe growled twice but he responded immediately.

We had such a pleasant weekend! He spent about 3 h in his kennel while we went grocery shopping and then went for an hour walk.

The new collar works much better and was definitely less of a workout walking him.

I never thought that I would have peace in my house again. However, when I was out in the yard trying to relax one day, I heard a neighbour tell another neighbour that she was trying to train her dog to walk nicely and ignore other dogs, but it was a lost cause when walking by our fence because our dogs went absolutely wild every time. Hi Janna - It's been a while since we have been in contact but I thought I would write you to give you an update. Everything went great with Lexi's stay at my parents house. To all of our suprise Rocci and her got along great. They played together all the time. Lexi still plays the Alpha role but it was a happy home for the two weeks we were gone. Here is a one of a kind event. I was contacted by Heather K. who had heard of Bark Busters through the grapevine. Heather had a pet pot bellied pig with behaviour issues and thought "what have I got to lose" and contacted me to see if I would be willing to take "Georgie" on as a client. I didn't know if oour methodology would work on a pig since it is rooted in the pack behaviour characeristic of dogs and I had never heard of a pack mentality being a trait of pigs, but I figured if Heather was willing to give it a try how could I refuse. So we did the training and here is a recent letter from Heather:

Just a quick update - after less that two days, Georgie is already being a much better behaved pig. Last time I opened the door he just waited. Also, in the kitchen, as soon as I picked up the training aid he heard the jingle and stopped dead in his tracks. Sitting and staying for his food is more challenging but I am very confident of that becoming quicker with time. We are off to a great beginning. Thank you SO MUCH for taking us on!!

Hi Janna,

I just wanted to give you an update on how Heidi did on the weekend when we had company over for a party. We were all outside when the guests started to arrive and all I did was use the training device that you gave me to keep her back and she settled right down. There was no barking, running around crazily, or anything. In fact she just continued on as normal and even went up to the strangers to try and play with them. This was a major change in her behavior. Our son (who was away in Europe for 9 weeks) was shocked at how well she did.

Hi Janna - The change in Baxter already is remarkable!!!! He no longer barks to come in the door from outside. Instead he goes and lays down and I go and get him when I have a minute. Just the fact he can wait for me to do things for him and not always demanding it helps so much. It is not that I don't want to do these things it is just that the baby must come first! He has stopped with the anxious pacing. We are practicing the same expectations at my parents house and it is working there too. I can't believe how much I am enjoying working with Baxter. He is more like the dog we need. I know the recall is going to take more practice, but he is already paying more attention to both of us, and it has only been two days!!!! Hi Janna - We have a different Winston now, he is much more submissive, and alert to whether his actions are acceptable to us or not. The techniques and exercises have worked wonders. He has already tried a couple of times to test us, but we are both committed to a well disciplined dog, so we will definitely keep at it.
He had 2 long walks yesterday, and did quite well staying at our side with small corrections. Then we practiced walking and turning in a line which he is getting pretty good at too, still a bit of challenge when one of us stays back, but again we will keep practicing. Hi Janna: First of all, thank you so much for getting us all on the right track. I can't believe how quickly it works. She has now spent two nights in her kennel and it wasn't as bad as I thought. Not to bother you again..but I just have to tell you that I walked by a fence that had two frantic dogs...she did her normal reaction...but I did the corrections and before I knew it, we were walking back and forth by the two still frantic dogs and she was calmly walking AND sitting beside me...she let out a few whimpers, but she was so good...and then there was a dog right across the street..all she did was glance over and I kept her walking along side the other dog..Lola kept on walking! I was so proud of her! Blue was great too!

I just had to share...it almost brought tears to my eyes again but in the best way ever (yeah I'm a suck I will be the first to admit it!)

Honestly I watch those training shows on TV in disbelief that it can be so easy to train dogs, needless to say I'm a FIRM believer now. There has been an overnight transformation!. Tuesday night Jake barked in his kennel ALL night, Janna came to train us the next day and that night when I put him in his kennel not ONE PEEP!!. Everything is going great... It is amazing how easy it is to use the Bah...It really does work... This morning, he first ran down the hallway, running his usual way...Then he turned around, came back down the hallway, and waited for me to walk down the hallway, and walk into the room...I turned around, once in the room, and he was sitting outside of the door, waiting for me to let him in the room... This morning, he did not whine at 4 am to get out, he did not whine at 6 am to get out, and he did not even make a peep when my alarm went off.....he stayed quiet in his kennel, until after I had my shower and then I opened the kennel, he was sitting up at the back of the kennel, and he sat there until I invited him out!!! That was just too neat to watch... I am just so happy that we did the training early in Bueller's life.....it is a simple way to communicate to dogs, without everyone becoming stressed out...
