The best part about being a dog trainer is the opportunity to make a massive difference in the lives of dogs and their owners.
The best part about running your own business is that you have more control over your own destiny.
The best part about becoming a Bark Busters franchise owner is that you can make the above two things happen, even if you don't have extensive dog training experience. Four things come together to make this possible:
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for individuals who have a passion for helping dogs and helping people. People skills are critical as you will be teaching owners. You need to be empathetic and caring. We are dealing with very important members of people’s families. We provide intensive training to learn our techniques, so it is not necessary that you be an experienced dog trainer or have completed other dog training certifications. Our approach is unique, so you will be learning a whole new technique.
Your career in dog training begins with a 23-day intensive training program held at our head office in Squamish, BC. This is NOT correspondence or internet-based self learning. This is hands-on, face to face intensive education. Our Director of Training, Barb Cooke, personally conducts the training of each new franchisee. There are typically only two or three students in each class. Bark Busters' (and your) success and reputation is based on the quality of your training, so we place great importance in ensuring your skills meet our high standards. Our training program has been developed and continuously refined since Bark Busters began franchising over 15 years ago. Through it, we consistently produce successful behaviour therapists and trainers.
In the training you will learn:
We also teach you about the keys to running a successful Bark Busters franchise. One of the biggest challenges most dog trainers face is being profitable enough to do this full time. At Bark Busters, we have a model that works. We share the best practices being employed by our existing successful franchisees which will give you a huge advantage in comparison to starting out all on your own. Topics include business planning, marketing, goal setting, customer relations, and public relations. All are consistent with our mission of helping more dogs. By achieving this, you will grow a profitable business.
Ongoing Training Support
We realize that even with the most intensive training, you will never have “learned it all”.
Even our seasoned veterans occasionally run into cases that stump them. This is where the value of being part of an organization like Bark Busters really shines. It sets us apart from many other dog training schools where, once you graduate, you are left to fend for yourself. There are resources available when you need help:
We designed this program to accelerate your learning curve. Instead of just learning from your own experience, you can learn 35 times faster by sharing knowledge with 35 other Bark Busters. This enhances your ability to help more dogs and grow a profitable business in a shorter time-frame.
Being part of Canada’s largest dog training company has many advantages. Our size allows us to invest in very professional marketing materials and programs at a fraction of the cost of what independent operators would pay. Our Google search rankings are very high and as a result, our website puts you in touch with many new clients. We have systems already in place to help you with administrative tasks like our call centre, automated client email program, liability insurance, yellow pages, equipment ordering, etc. We want you to spend your valuable time doing what you love and what is most important: helping dogs and building your client base.
The total cost of a new territory is $48,000. This includes your training and the rights to operate the Bark Busters business in a specified geographic territory. There are also some previously owned franchises that are for sale at varying prices. (For more details, please contact us).
Compared to other dog training schools, this can seem high. However, it is important to understand that you are buying an asset which is very different from simply paying a tuition fee. If you build your business, there is a good chance it will increase in value and one day, if you decide to move on, you can sell it to recoup your investment.
To fund the ongoing support programs, Bark Busters charges a royalty of 11% of your revenue. You will also make a contribution to our National Marketing Fund of 2% of your revenue. This funds programs like search engine optimization, web site revisions, and national public relations programs that benefit all franchisees. I would encourage you to read what some of our current franchisees have to say about their experience by following the link to Testimonials.
